District 4 Councilman Walter Reynolds is officially entering the race, saying the city is at a “critical moment” with several longtime council members preparing to retire. “This is a unique opportunity to reshape the way we do business in Milledgeville,” Reynolds told WGXA reporter Carlos Stephens in an exclusive interview.

Reynolds says his campaign is focused on three core issues: infrastructure, public safety, and downtown revitalization. “There have been ongoing issues with the city’s water system. We have a plan in place, but I want to ensure the community understands how it will unfold,” he said. “Public safety is also a priority. I’ve long supported our personnel and want to make sure they receive competitive salaries.”

Reynolds also emphasized his commitment to restoring Milledgeville’s award-winning Main Street to pre-COVID standards, calling the city “a beautiful, historic place that deserves consistent care.” With over 40 years since a councilmember has moved into the mayor’s seat, Reynolds says his experience makes him uniquely qualified for the role.

Before announcing his candidacy, Reynolds reached out to Mayor Parham-Copelan directly. “I wanted her to hear it from me—not from Facebook,” he said. “I have a great deal of respect for her, and I owed her that courtesy.” Despite the competitive nature of politics, Reynolds says both he and the mayor are committed to a respectful, issue-focused campaign.

“Politics doesn’t have to be a blood sport,” he said. “At the local level, we’re dealing with fiscal decisions—not partisan ones. The real question is whether our policies do good for the community.”
